Our Story
Petite Sophisticate® was founded in 1985 by Jane Smith, a petite woman herself who struggled to find fashionable clothing that properly fit her petite frame. After years of frustration, Jane decided to take matters into her own hands. She began designing and producing a line of clothing and accessories tailored specifically for petite sizes.
The very first Petite Sophisticate® collection consisted of just 15 styles – mostly dresses, blazers, pants, and blouses in neutral colors. But Jane’s designs struck a chord with petite women who were thrilled to finally find chic, well-fitting options made just for them.
Within two years, Petite Sophisticate® expanded to 50 stores across the country. Our collections also grew to include more styles, prints, colors, and categories like petites suits, coats, jeans, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and more.
Over the past 30+ years, Petite Sophisticate® has stayed true to Jane’s original vision of providing stylish, perfectly-fitting clothing and accessories to petite women in sizes 0P-12P. As a brand designed specifically for the petite figure, our products are tailor-made to fit and flatter – no more baggy sleeves, pant legs that drag on the floor, or oversized shoulder bags.
